It depends on a lot of factors. Do you have a large family, kids, pets, smokers? The more traffic generally the more frequently you should have carpets cleaned. Typically 6-18 months.
Non professional machines just don't have enough power to do a satisfactory job. However if you insist on cleaning carpet yourself you will need: buy or rent a machine, a pre spray cleaner , a new pump sprayer to apply quality pre spray to carpet, a quality rinse to put in the machine, and then a variety of professional spotting solutions to help remove the tuff spots. And the better part of a day to clean since you have a small machine and have do multiple cleaning passes to the same area. After all that you will probably end up with fair results at best, IS IT WORTH IT?
TIP...if you clean carpet yourself DO NOT PUT THE CLEANER/PRE SPRAY IN THE MACHINE it will most likely leave a sticky residue and cause rapid re-soiling.
NO. Most carpet manufacturers do not recommend the dry cleaning or low moisture method. Dry cleaning method was initially developed for interim or between deep steam cleaning (also know as hot water extraction). Dry cleaning typically uses a bonnet pad made with short strands of fibers similar to a string mop to buff or wipe the carpet to remove the cleaning solution (wet) and soil from the carpet. Lets face it we don't clean our dishes, our clothing or ourself by just wiping. Why think by wiping your carpet it will clean it.
